Why Did These TSX and TSXV Listed Small-Cap Stocks Surge on October 1? Beyond Oil Ltd. (TSX:BOIL), Quantum eMotion Corp. (TSXV:QNC) and More?

Why Did Small-Cap Stocks Rise on October 1?

Small-cap stocks can move for reasons that are easy to miss if investors look only at the percentage gain.

A 10% rise may come from a new customer, a drilling result, an acquisition, a financing deal or simply renewed interest in a particular sector. On October 1, 2026, the Canadian small-cap market offered examples of almost all of them.

The strongest move came from Beyond Oil Ltd. (TSX:BOIL), which gained roughly 34.4% after announcing a significant commercial milestone. Quantum eMotion Corp. (TSXV:QNC) continued to attract attention after announcing its proposed acquisition of Plurilock Security, while Pulse Seismic Inc. (TSX:PSD) responded to preliminary third-quarter revenue that was more than four times the year-earlier level.

Several gold and mining stocks also moved higher as investors continued to focus on exploration results, project development and the broader commodity backdrop.

For retail investors, the important question is not simply which stock went up the most. It is why the stock moved and whether the reason can affect the company's future earnings, assets or cash flow.

Why Did Beyond Oil Ltd. (TSX:BOIL) Jump About 34%?

Beyond Oil Ltd. (TSX:BOIL) was the standout mover, rising roughly 34.4%.

The catalyst was a new commercial approval. The company announced that a large multinational restaurant parent had added Beyond Oil to its global approved products list. The restaurant group operates tens of thousands of locations across more than 100 countries and territories.

That matters because Beyond Oil Ltd. (TSX:BOIL) is trying to turn its frying-oil technology into a large commercial business.

Its product is designed to help restaurants manage frying oil more efficiently, with the potential to reduce oil consumption, waste and operating costs while maintaining food-quality standards.

Global vendor approval does not mean that every restaurant in the network will immediately become a customer. But it gives Beyond Oil Ltd. (TSX:BOIL) access to franchise groups and regional operators that previously had to evaluate the product through individual channels.

The company said discussions and onboarding were already advancing with regional franchise groups across markets including Europe and North America.

That makes the next stage particularly important.

Investors will want to see whether the approval produces purchase orders, recurring sales and meaningful revenue growth. For now, the October 1 rally was largely a reaction to the size of the commercial opportunity.

Why Did Pulse Seismic Inc. (TSX:PSD) Gain About 14%?

Pulse Seismic Inc. (TSX:PSD) rose about 14.1% after announcing strong preliminary third-quarter revenue.

The company said it generated approximately C$17.3 million in seismic data licensing revenue during the third quarter. That was more than 400% above the third quarter of 2025. Nine-month revenue was expected to reach approximately C$22.8 million.

The business is relatively straightforward.

Pulse Seismic Inc. (TSX:PSD) owns a large library of 2D and 3D seismic data covering western Canada's energy-producing regions. Energy companies can license that information when evaluating exploration and development opportunities.

The important point is that licensing revenue can be lumpy. A large contract in one quarter can make the year-on-year comparison look spectacular, while a quieter period can produce the opposite effect.

Pulse itself noted that the timing of seismic licensing activity can fluctuate considerably.

So the October 1 move was not simply a bet that revenue will continue growing at more than 400%. It was a response to evidence that the company's data library remains commercially valuable.

The preliminary figures have not yet been audited or reviewed, so investors will get a clearer picture when the company reports its full third-quarter results.

Why Did Quantum eMotion Corp. (TSXV:QNC) Rise About 17%?

Quantum eMotion Corp. (TSXV:QNC) gained approximately 16.6%, with investors continuing to digest its proposed acquisition of Plurilock Security.

The agreement, announced on September 28, would combine Quantum eMotion's quantum-secure technology with Plurilock's established cybersecurity business. Plurilock brings commercial customers, cybersecurity services, procurement channels and AI-related cybersecurity capabilities.

The proposed transaction has an aggregate value of approximately C$33.8 million and would be funded through a combination of cash and Quantum eMotion shares.

For retail investors, the attraction is fairly simple to understand.

Quantum eMotion Corp. (TSXV:QNC) has been developing technology aimed at the emerging quantum-security market. Plurilock gives the combined company an existing commercial cybersecurity operation.

That potentially moves the business closer to customers that are already spending money on cybersecurity today.

The acquisition still has to close, and investors also have to consider the effect of issuing shares as part of the transaction. Those factors will matter when assessing the long-term value of the deal.

Why Did Founders Metals, Inc. (TSXV:FDR) Gain About 7%?

Founders Metals, Inc. (TSXV:FDR) gained approximately 6.9% as investor interest continued to build around its Antino Gold Project in Suriname.

The company has consolidated 100% ownership of the project and recently closed a strategic investment of approximately C$77 million from Gold Fields. The transaction increased Gold Fields' stake in Founders Metals, Inc. (TSXV:FDR) to about 19.9%.

That strategic investment is important for a junior exploration company because it brings both capital and the involvement of a major gold producer.

Earlier drilling has also produced high-grade results, including a reported 27-metre interval grading 20.38 grams of gold per tonne.

High-grade drill results can have a large impact on exploration stocks because investors are trying to determine whether an early discovery can become a large economic resource.

But drilling is only the beginning. Resource definition, metallurgy, infrastructure, permitting and eventual mine economics still have to be established.

For Founders Metals, Inc. (TSXV:FDR), the combination of ownership consolidation, Gold Fields' investment and continued exploration remains the central reason investors are paying attention.

Why Did Pulsar Helium, Inc. (TSXV:PLSR) Rise About 8%?

Pulsar Helium, Inc. (TSXV:PLSR) climbed approximately 7.7% after signing and accepting a proposal from Chart Energy & Chemicals, a Baker Hughes company, for equipment for its proposed commercial-scale helium plant in Minnesota.

The equipment-supply proposal is valued at approximately US$85.5 million.

This is an important step because Pulsar Helium, Inc. (TSXV:PLSR) needs more than a helium resource to generate future revenue. It also needs processing and liquefaction infrastructure.

The proposed arrangement provides a staged framework for supplying that equipment.

There is an important qualification. The US$85.5 million figure is the equipment-supply price, not the total installed cost of the plant. Installation, commissioning, infrastructure and other costs are excluded. The company also said it continues to work on financing alternatives for the remaining payments and wider development costs.

That makes the announcement positive project-development news, but not the same thing as having a completed helium operation.

Why Did P2 Gold Inc. (TSXV:PGLD) Rise About 11%?

P2 Gold Inc. (TSXV:PGLD) gained approximately 10.9% as investors continued to follow progress at its Gabbs gold-copper project in Nevada.

Recent drilling at the Lucky Strike area has produced long intervals containing gold and copper. The company is also working toward a feasibility study targeted for the first quarter of 2027.

There was no major new company-specific headline on October 1.

Instead, the move appears to have reflected continued interest in the company's exploration programme, project development and broader strength in the gold sector.

For investors following P2 Gold Inc. (TSXV:PGLD), the next meaningful catalysts are likely to be additional drilling results and the progress of the feasibility work.

Why Did Amapa Minerals Holdings, Inc. (TSXV:AMAP) Gain About 8%?

Amapa Minerals Holdings, Inc. (TSXV:AMAP) gained roughly 7.8% as investors continued to respond to its recent listing and the restart of gold production at its Brazilian Amapá project.

The project has historical production of more than 1.5 million ounces of gold.

That gives Amapa Minerals Holdings, Inc. (TSXV:AMAP) a different profile from a pure exploration company. Investors are looking at the potential restart and expansion of an existing mining operation rather than simply betting on a new discovery.

The recent listing also increased visibility among investors following Canadian-listed gold stocks.

The October 1 move appears to have been linked more to listing momentum, production expectations and gold-sector sentiment than to one major new announcement that day.

Why Did Mackay Gold & Silver Corp. (TSXV:MACK) Rise About 8%?

Mackay Gold & Silver Corp. (TSXV:MACK) gained approximately 8.1% as investors continued to focus on its consolidation of the historic Comstock Lode district in Nevada.

The company has acquired the Big Bonanza property and is exploring the Occidental South area, where early drilling has produced encouraging near-surface gold intercepts.

The attraction is partly the size of the consolidated land position.

For a junior mining company, controlling a larger section of a historical district can provide more room to explore geological trends and potentially expand a mineralised system.

The market is therefore waiting for additional drilling and resource information to determine how significant the exploration opportunity could become.

Why Did Lavras Gold Corp. (TSXV:LGC) Gain About 8%?

Lavras Gold Corp. (TSXV:LGC) rose approximately 8.2% as investors continued to focus on exploration and permitting progress in Brazil.

The company has approved an accelerated 25,000-metre drilling programme at the expanded Caneleira target near Fazenda-Butia.

Lavras Gold Corp. (TSXV:LGC) has also completed environmental impact assessment field studies ahead of a preliminary environmental licence application.

For retail investors, the important point is that the company is progressing on two fronts. Exploration can potentially expand the mineral opportunity, while permitting is necessary if the project is eventually going to move toward development.

The next major share-price catalyst is likely to come from drilling results and further permitting progress.

Why Did Global Atomic Corporation (TSX:GLO) Rise About 7%?

Global Atomic Corporation (TSX:GLO) gained approximately 6.5% after closing a public offering that raised roughly C$57 million.

The company intends to use the proceeds to advance the Dasa uranium project in Niger.

For a development-stage mining company, financing can be just as important as drilling. A large resource has little value to shareholders if the company cannot finance the infrastructure needed to develop it.

The new capital therefore gives Global Atomic Corporation (TSX:GLO) additional financial resources to continue advancing Dasa.

The move also came against a broader backdrop of investor interest in uranium and nuclear-energy supply chains.

Why Did Sintana Energy Inc. (TSXV:SEI) Gain About 9%?

Sintana Energy Inc. (TSXV:SEI) gained roughly 8.7% after an affiliate agreed to transfer its 10% interest in Namibia's PEL 90 to a Chevron affiliate.

The transaction includes US$11 million in upfront cash, with additional payments tied to future appraisal and production milestones.

The deal changes the company's exposure to the project.

Instead of carrying the same capital requirements associated with its previous interest, Sintana Energy Inc. (TSXV:SEI) receives cash while retaining the possibility of additional payments if the project progresses.

For investors, that makes the transaction more than a simple asset sale. It is also a way of changing the company's risk and capital requirements while keeping some potential upside.

Why Did Enablence Technologies Inc. (TSXV:ENA) Rise About 7%?

Enablence Technologies Inc. (TSXV:ENA) gained approximately 7.4% following preliminary fiscal 2026 results and stronger guidance for fiscal 2027.

The company expects fiscal 2027 revenue to reach approximately US$19 million to US$21 million, more than double the expected level for the previous year, while maintaining positive gross margins.

Enablence Technologies Inc. (TSXV:ENA) has also announced a C$25 million strategic investment.

The company's technology is connected to optical communications infrastructure, giving investors exposure to demand from AI, data centres and high-speed networks.

The key issue now is whether the company's guidance translates into actual revenue and sustainable profitability.

Why Did Real Matters, Inc. (TSX:REAL) Rise About 5%?

Real Matters, Inc. (TSX:REAL) rose approximately 5.2% following recent quarterly results showing a return to profitability.

The company's U.S. Title business provided growth, while its Appraisal segment remained relatively steady.

The shares had also experienced weakness, meaning the October 1 move may have included some bargain-hunting.

For investors following Real Matters, Inc. (TSX:REAL), the more important question is whether the improvement in profitability can continue through subsequent quarters.

Why Did Vector Science and Therapeutics Corp. (TSXV:PAIN) Gain About 6%?

Vector Science and Therapeutics Corp. (TSXV:PAIN) gained approximately 6.3% as investors continued to follow developments in peptide manufacturing and therapeutic technology.

The company has brought its first manufacturing suite at LyoGenesis online and has advanced patent filings involving orthopedic tissue regeneration.

Commercial and manufacturing agreements have also added to the company's development story.

There was no single dramatic catalyst behind the move. Instead, investors appear to have been responding to continuing execution.

For Vector Science and Therapeutics Corp. (TSXV:PAIN), manufacturing capacity and the ability to convert its technology into commercial revenue will be the important milestones to watch.

Why Did St. Augustine Gold & Copper Ltd. (TSX:SAU) Rise About 6%?

St. Augustine Gold & Copper Ltd. (TSX:SAU) gained approximately 5.7%.

There was limited fresh company-specific news on October 1, making the move more closely linked to ongoing progress at the King-king copper-gold project in the Philippines and broader copper and gold sector sentiment.

St. Augustine Gold & Copper Ltd. (TSX:SAU) continues to work toward a definitive feasibility study.

For investors, the next important developments will be project economics, feasibility work, permitting and financing.

Why Did Reitmans (Canada) Limited (TSX:RET) Gain About 6%?

Reitmans (Canada) Limited (TSX:RET) rose approximately 6.2% following its fiscal second-quarter results.

The company reported a 160-basis-point improvement in gross margin to 58.5%, while comparable-store sales remained relatively resilient.

Flagship brands also performed well, and year-to-date profitability improved despite softer revenue.

That makes Reitmans (Canada) Limited (TSX:RET) a different kind of small-cap stock story from the mining companies in this group.

Investors are looking at an operating retail business where margins, sales and store performance can be measured directly.

The question now is whether the improved margins can continue and whether revenue growth eventually strengthens.

Why Did Errington Metals Corp. (TSXV:EM) Rise About 5%?

Errington Metals Corp. (TSXV:EM) gained approximately 5.2% as investors continued to respond to developments at its Sudbury Basin Project.

The company recently reported a maiden mineral resource estimate containing copper, zinc, lead, gold and silver. It has also reached a definitive agreement to acquire additional ground from Vale.

The combination gives Errington Metals Corp. (TSXV:EM) a clearer resource base and a larger exploration footprint.

For a junior exploration company, that can be important because the market is constantly reassessing both the quality of the existing resource and the possibility of finding additional mineralisation nearby.

Further exploration and resource development will therefore be important for the stock.

What Do These 17 Small-Cap Stock Gainers Have in Common?

The October 1, 2026 small-cap stock gainers did not all rise for the same reason.

Beyond Oil Ltd. (TSX:BOIL) had a major commercial approval. Pulse Seismic Inc. (TSX:PSD) reported a sharp increase in preliminary quarterly revenue. Quantum eMotion Corp. (TSXV:QNC) announced a potentially important cybersecurity acquisition. Pulsar Helium, Inc. (TSXV:PLSR) advanced its plans for a commercial helium plant.

The mining stocks followed a different path.

Founders Metals, Inc. (TSXV:FDR) continued to benefit from its Antino Gold Project and Gold Fields investment. P2 Gold Inc. (TSXV:PGLD) remained focused on Gabbs. Amapa Minerals Holdings, Inc. (TSXV:AMAP) attracted interest around its production restart. Mackay Gold & Silver Corp. (TSXV:MACK) continued exploration around the Comstock Lode district, while Lavras Gold Corp. (TSXV:LGC) advanced drilling and permitting.

Elsewhere, Global Atomic Corporation (TSX:GLO) had a financing catalyst, Sintana Energy Inc. (TSXV:SEI) changed its capital exposure to a Namibian asset, and Enablence Technologies Inc. (TSXV:ENA) benefited from stronger guidance.

Real Matters, Inc. (TSX:REAL) and Reitmans (Canada) Limited (TSX:RET) were supported by operating improvements, while Vector Science and Therapeutics Corp. (TSXV:PAIN) continued to advance its manufacturing and therapeutic programmes. St. Augustine Gold & Copper Ltd. (TSX:SAU) remained tied to project development, while Errington Metals Corp. (TSXV:EM) benefited from resource and land-package developments.
